Crumbling stores. Burned-out high-rises. "Neighborhoods," if you can call them that, that resemble third-world war zones. Call me crazy but switching off the GPS and getting lost in Baltimore or DC (or any other major US city) is a *REAL* eye-opener (and an experience that I wish that every American who's safely tucked away in a lush, green suburb or Mayberry-ish small-town American city would subject themselves to).

For safety reasons, I don't stop and whip out the camera gear. But beauty definitely abounds. In the random flowers that pop up and flourish in the middle of a sidewalk. And in the people who, despite their hard lives and obvious struggles, continue to survive despite it all.

People who see the beauty in the midst of the "ugly" are really rare and unique. Nice shots. Thanks for bringing back some memories.
