I spent part of Cinco de Mayo 2012 in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden with some photography buddies. I did not think to bring my extension tubes this trip, but I was still able to get a detailed photo of the drops on this leaf thanks to my full-frame sensor and cropping in Lightroom.
Today was a bit of a challenge, because there was misting, and that muted the colors in the garden. I like vibrant colors, so I had to think carefully of how to make interesting shots. I created some good ones, though, and I’ll be sharing them.

I had not intended to make this photo. I had put my camera onto the bench for some reason, and when I uploaded photos to my computer I found this shot amongst the many I had made that day. I can’t even say why I like the photo, I just do.

The Space Shuttle Enterprise is the reason the other space shuttles exist. Enterprise was used for various tests during the development of the space-worthy shuttles. Since the space program began, she has been in the Smithsonian, but now that the Smithsonian has obtained the retired shuttle Discovery, Enterprise was turned over to New York City’s Intrepid Air & Space Museum. Enterprise will go up the Hudson by barge this summer to the Intrepid. In the meantime, she’ll be housed in a special hangar at JFK airport, where she was flown Friday on the back of NASA’s 747. She didn’t fly over my neighborhood as I’d hoped, but from my balcony I kept my eyes to the south where planes fly into JFK, and thanks to my 300mm lens, I was able to capture shots of her on her approach for landing.

Crop of full-size version of first photo. The small dot ahead of her in the frame is the escort plane.
