Nighttime is a magical time. The world looks different once the sun goes down and the lights go on. The lack of background lighting eliminates distractions and naturally directs my eyes to whatever is lit, like this food truck just outside of Union Square Park. I metered for the person behind the counter to give the image greater depth. I made those decisions and snapped the photo all in the space of a second or two. It’s satisfying to have the skills at this point in my artistic evolution to instinctively capture this kind of image.
